2. Performance Characteristics

This configuration is designed to deliver exceptional performance across a wide range of workloads. The dual Xeon Platinum processors, coupled with high-speed DDR5 memory and NVMe SSD storage, provide a significant performance boost compared to previous-generation systems.

  • **CPU Performance:** The Intel Xeon Platinum 8480+ processors excel in multi-threaded applications. SPECint_rate2017 scores are expected to be in the range of 280-320 per socket, resulting in a combined score of 560-640. SPECfp_rate2017 scores are projected to be 220-260 per socket, totaling 440-520. These scores are indicative of high floating-point and integer processing capabilities. See CPU Benchmarking Standards.
  • **Memory Performance:** DDR5-5600 memory provides a significant bandwidth increase over DDR4. Theoretical peak bandwidth is approximately 89.6 GB/s per memory channel, resulting in a total system bandwidth of 716.8 GB/s with 8 channels populated. Latency is optimized for the Xeon processors. See Memory Bandwidth and Latency.
  • **Storage Performance:** The NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSDs deliver extremely high IOPS and low latency. Sequential read speeds are expected to exceed 7000 MB/s, and sequential write speeds will be around 6500 MB/s. Random read/write IOPS will be in the hundreds of thousands. RAID 10 configuration further enhances performance and provides data redundancy. See NVMe Performance Analysis.
  • **Network Performance:** The 100GbE NICs provide high-bandwidth network connectivity, essential for data-intensive applications. RoCE support minimizes latency and improves network throughput. Throughput is expected to be consistently above 90 Gbps with minimal packet loss. See Network Performance Monitoring.
    • Benchmark Results (Simulated):**
Benchmark Score Notes
SPECint_rate2017 600 Combined score across both CPUs
SPECfp_rate2017 480 Combined score across both CPUs
PassMark CPU Mark 38,000 Overall CPU performance score
CrystalDiskMark (Sequential Read) 7200 MB/s Average across RAID 10 array
Iometer (4KB Random Read IOPS) 650,000 Average across RAID 10 array
    • Real-World Performance:**
  • **Database Server:** Capable of handling thousands of concurrent database connections with low latency. Suitable for large-scale transactional databases like Oracle, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL. Expected transaction rates will depend on the specific database schema and workload, but this configuration will provide ample resources for demanding applications.
  • **Virtualization Host:** Can comfortably host a significant number of virtual machines (VMs) with high performance. Supports a high VM density without compromising performance. Ideal for VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and KVM.
  • **Web Server:** Capable of serving a high volume of web requests with low latency. Suitable for high-traffic websites and web applications. Can easily handle peak loads and ensure a responsive user experience.

3. Recommended Use Cases

This server configuration is best suited for the following applications:

  • **Large-Scale Database Hosting:** Ideal for hosting demanding database applications requiring high IOPS, low latency, and high availability.
  • **Virtualization Infrastructure:** Excellent for running a large number of virtual machines, supporting business-critical applications and workloads.
