- Cloud Server Options - Technical Documentation
This document details the specifications, performance, use cases, and maintenance considerations for our standard "Cloud Server Options" configuration. This configuration represents a balance between cost-effectiveness, performance, and scalability, making it a popular choice for a wide range of workloads.
1. Hardware Specifications
This configuration is built around a modular design, allowing for flexible component selection. The base configuration is detailed below, with optional upgrades available. All servers utilize enterprise-grade components for enhanced reliability and longevity.
CPU
The standard CPU is a Dual Intel Xeon Gold 6338 (32 Cores/64 Threads, 2.0 GHz Base, 3.4 GHz Turbo). This processor utilizes the Intel Ice Lake generation microarchitecture, offering a significant performance improvement over previous generations. We also offer options for upgrading to the Intel Xeon Platinum 8380 (40 Cores/80 Threads, 2.3 GHz Base, 3.4 GHz Turbo) for more demanding workloads. All CPUs support AVX-512 instruction sets for accelerated data processing. For a detailed comparison of Intel CPU families, see CPU Generation Comparison.
RAM
The standard RAM configuration is 128GB DDR4 ECC Registered RAM, operating at 3200MHz. This is configured in 8 x 16GB modules to maximize memory bandwidth and provide redundancy. Upgrades are available up to 512GB using 16 x 32GB modules. The memory controller is integrated within the CPU. Memory timings are automatically configured for optimal performance based on the installed modules. Please refer to Memory Configuration Guide for more information on optimal memory configurations.
Storage
Storage is provided via a combination of NVMe SSDs and optional SATA SSD/HDDs. The base configuration includes two 1TB NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSDs in a RAID 1 configuration for redundancy and improved read/write performance. This provides approximately 800GB usable capacity. We utilize Samsung PM1733 series NVMe drives known for their high endurance and performance. Optional storage expansion is available with up to four additional 4TB SATA SSDs or HDDs, configured in RAID 0, RAID 5, or RAID 10 depending on the customer’s requirements. See RAID Configuration Options for detailed RAID level information. We also offer network attached storage (NAS) integration for larger capacity requirements – see NAS Integration Guide.
Networking
Each server includes a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) network interface card (NIC) based on the Intel X710-DA4 chipset. This provides high-bandwidth connectivity and supports features such as SR-IOV and Virtualization Technology for Networking (VT-d). Optional 25GbE and 40GbE NICs are available. The server also includes a dedicated IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) network port for remote management. See Networking Best Practices for details on network configuration and security.
Motherboard
The motherboard is a Supermicro X12DPG-QT6. It supports dual Intel Xeon Scalable processors, up to 512GB DDR4 ECC Registered memory, and multiple PCIe slots for expansion cards. The motherboard includes integrated ASPEED AST2600 BMC for remote management. Detailed specifications can be found at Supermicro Motherboard Specifications.
Power Supply
The server is equipped with a redundant 80+ Platinum certified 1600W power supply unit (PSU). Redundancy ensures continued operation even if one PSU fails. The PSU supports universal AC input (100-240V). See Power Supply Redundancy for more information on PSU configuration and failure scenarios.
Chassis
The server is housed in a 2U rackmount chassis designed for optimal airflow and cooling. The chassis is constructed of high-quality steel for durability and features tool-less access to components.

4. Comparison with Similar Configurations
Here's a comparison of this configuration with other commonly requested options:
Configuration | CPU | RAM | Storage | Networking | Price (USD/Month - Estimated) | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
**Cloud Server Options (This Document)** | Dual Intel Xeon Gold 6338 | 128GB DDR4 | 2 x 1TB NVMe (RAID 1) | 10GbE | $800 | |
**Entry-Level Cloud Server** | Dual Intel Xeon Silver 4310 | 64GB DDR4 | 1 x 500GB NVMe | 1GbE | $400 | |
**High-Performance Cloud Server** | Dual Intel Xeon Platinum 8380 | 256GB DDR4 | 4 x 2TB NVMe (RAID 10) | 25GbE | $1500 | |

The "Entry-Level Cloud Server" is a more cost-effective option, but offers significantly lower performance. The "High-Performance Cloud Server" provides superior performance but comes at a higher price point. The "Memory Optimized Cloud Server" trades storage capacity for increased RAM, making it ideal for memory-intensive applications. For a detailed cost comparison, see Cloud Server Pricing Guide.
5. Maintenance Considerations
Proper maintenance is crucial for ensuring the long-term reliability and performance of the server.
Cooling
The server requires adequate cooling to prevent overheating. Our data centers utilize a precision cooling system to maintain a consistent temperature. However, it's important to ensure that the server chassis is free of dust and that the fans are functioning correctly. Regularly check fan speeds and temperatures via the IPMI interface. See Data Center Cooling Procedures.
Power Requirements
The server requires a dedicated 120V/240V power circuit with a minimum of 20 amps. The redundant power supplies provide protection against power outages, but it's still important to have a reliable power source. Monitor power consumption via the IPMI interface.
Remote Management
The server is equipped with an IPMI interface that allows for remote management, including power control, remote console access, and monitoring of hardware health. Familiarize yourself with the IPMI interface and its features. See IPMI Configuration and Usage.
Software Updates
Regularly update the server's operating system and software to address security vulnerabilities and improve performance. Automated patching systems are recommended. See Server Security Best Practices.
Hardware Monitoring
Utilize system monitoring tools to track CPU usage, memory usage, disk I/O, and network traffic. Proactive monitoring can help identify potential issues before they impact performance. We provide a dedicated monitoring dashboard – see Server Monitoring Dashboard.
RAID Maintenance
Regularly check the health of the RAID array and replace any failing drives promptly. Implement a regular backup schedule to protect against data loss. See Data Backup and Recovery Procedures.
Physical Security
The servers are housed in a secure data center with restricted access and 24/7 surveillance. Physical security is a top priority. See Data Center Security Protocols.
